Ticket Chair, Cheryle Hahnfeldt
Quilt Committee:
Suzy Golden (chair), Barb Connolly, Ellen Koenig, Maureen Mitchell, Sheddy Reese
The 2013 Charity quilt will be created in a king size with two shams in batik shop-quality fabrics. The quilt designer has given us permission to use her pattern and the name of the pattern will be released officially in December 2011 when the top is completed. Barb Connelly will order the pattern for our use. The quilt will be professionally long-arm machine quilted and the borders hand sewn. Sheddy Reese will research and reserve the time for the quilt and shams to be completed.
All the Chapters will be involved by each one providing 12 fat quarters of shop quality batiks in light to medium range colors. Additional donations of larger batik fabrics are also welcome as well as donations of money in lieu of fabrics. Any extra fabrics will be used for other guild charity projects.
The introduction of the Charity project was announced at the May 2011 Guild meeting. A calendar of events follows. All the fabrics will go to the Sea Breeze Chapter Committee, who will sort and coordinate colors, accurately cut and assemble kits.
The Quilt Guild will pay for the fabric that will be used for the background, borders, quilt backing and batting. The committee will choose these fabrics and seek special discounts in purchasing these items from local shops and recognize their participation. The Guild will also pay for the long-arm machine quality cost.
The Sea Breeze Committee, with the help of our chapter members, will be responsible for making up the kits for each block. Guild Treasurer Beth Bender has made this quilt and has offered her help as we create our Florida version of this beautiful quilt (Treasurer@QGOTV.org)
The quilt block kits will be distributed by Alice Nicholas at the June 21, 2011 Executive Board Meeting. Each chapter will receive their quilt block kits, complete with the pre-cut fabrics, a photo, and clear instructions for sewing in a special storage box.
Each Chapter President will ask one or more of their master quilters to construct 3-4 of the blocks to obtain professional quality results for a beautiful quilt. Each chapter will have a regular committee contact person if they have any questions. (These people will be determined soon.) All the blocks should be completed and turned in at the October 4, 2011 Guild meeting. We will ask each Chapter to "Show and Tell" their completed blocks.
All the blocks will be gathered and returned to the Sea Breeze Chapter. The committee will assemble and arrange the blocks. The blocks will be pieced and finished. The completed top will be presented at the December 2011 Guild Meeting. The name of the pattern will be announced at this time. The top and shams will be sent in early January 2012 to be professionally long-arm quilted; and made ready to be presented at the February 2012 Guild meeting.
Once the quilt is completed, SeaBreeze will not be responsible for displaying it; another Chapter has been assigned this task.
