OLD BUSINESS:
A Big thanks to Wanda for organizing a Shop Hop on Election Day.
Sharon explained that the Sterling Sisters' room is also used as a voting center, so we might be able to organize a joint Shop Hop bus trip in November.
4H: Carol Fox gave us an update of the status of what the 5 girls have accomplished. All of the girls have completed the jeans bag project and really liked it. Thanks to Janet Agostinelli who figured out how to make it and then taught the lesson. She also taught how to make the pillowcase which 3 of the girls have completed. Carol asked all of them to make an additional pillowcase to donate to a homeless shelter with some material that was donated. One completed pillowcase has been returned. Thanks to all the Allamanda volunteers who have helped at our 4H meetings so far, Janet Agostinelli, Wanda Pierce, Sharon Hannahs, and Sharon Musch.
All of the girls plan to exhibit their jeans bags at the Sumter County Fair March 9 - 17th. They may also exhibit their pillowcases and other sewing projects they completed on their own. It also sounds like some of them may exhibit in other categories, as in scrapbooking and/or collections. These exhibits are judged and ribbons awarded.
As part of the fair, there is a Fashion Review where 4H members can model clothing they constructed, quilted, crocheted, etc., or they can model an outfit they purchased and coordinated. All of our girls plan to model something. The two February meetings have been devoted to getting them ready for their entries in the modeling and exhibits.
They are now moving on to making items of their choice. Three want to make Anime costumes. We need help modifying patterns to make these. Some also are working on pajama bottoms, a skirt, slacks and a sundress.
The Sumter County fair is also open to adult entries. Marilyn Paluszak prominently displayed a link on the Guild website for information and entry forms. There are many categories in addition to quilts. Micki MacCumbee and Carol Fox have tags that need to accompany any entries. See either of them if you would like to enter in the competition. Entries will be judged using Danish rules. Entries must be turned in by March 5th and can be picked up after the fair has ended on March 19th. There will be security, but it was suggested that anything you treasure or has great value might not be a good thing to enter.
Retreat: Monique Foley reviewed the dates of the retreat as being next Tuesday through Thursday. She asked all going to bring goodies, extension cords and mark their property accordingly. Arrival time should not be before 9 a.m.
MarketPlace 2012: A big thanks to Dona Black for her help to make this project a success.
Sister Chapter: Allamanda will be hosting Sterling Stitchers (Judy Short, President) our sister chapter on February 28th. Judy will advise how many will attend. Becky Chianese volunteered to coordinate this event. Carol Fox has volunteered to make cookies.
The Finish Line: A demo will be given by Jo Loder on the 4 B's (backing, basting, borders, binding). This demo is great for new quilters and is offered free on February 28th, 2012. No sewing machines will be needed. Jo will be sending an email requesting a response from those interested in her demo so she would have sufficient hand outs for all participants.
Machine Raw Edge Appliqué Class: Sally Sonnichsen requested payment for this class to be held on March 27th by Marie Anderson called Machine Raw Edge appliqué. If anyone needs to purchase kits before the workshop see Sally for Marie's website.
NEW BUSINESS
We have a new Chapter at Captiva Recreation Center. They met for the first time on February 7th. Please welcome them at the Guild meetings when you see them.
Education Days: will be on the 4th Tuesday meeting day. The following will be offered: February will be done by Jo Loder on The Finish Line, March will be done by Marie from Material Girl teaching Raw Edge appliqué and April a DVD loaned by Saunie Olvey about appliqué taught by Karen Kay Buckley. If someone has a DVD they would like to share for May, contact Cathy.
Historian Positions: The Guild level has an opening for a Historian. If anyone is interested, contact Cathy. We also would like an Allamanda Historian. We have been saving articles from the paper that tracts our history. Our Historian will document our history from the beginning before we forget. Please see Cathy if you have an interest.
Showcase 2013: The Executive Board approved the purchase of a new hanging system.
Entering Quilts - Entry forms and instructions are on the website www.qgotv.org. Please note all quilts will be judged and all quilts must have a hanging sleeve this year. Should you want to enter a quilt and can't get to the website to download a form, see Cathy.
Showcase Boutique: Allamanda's coordinator is Suzanne Brown. It was agreed all items for review will be brought in by our members the 1st Tuesday of March to finalize our choice. We will schedule a couple of work days to share instructions to make our items. Each member is asked to donate at least one item to help our chapter raise funds.
Donation Quilt Committee: Marilyn Paluszak still needs a few representatives from each chapter. Sandi Pearson has volunteered. We need one more from our chapter. Please see Marilyn if you have an interest.
Show-and-Tell: Many beautiful and interesting items were shown by nine members. Please see pictures of these items at www.qgotv.org.
