SEA BREEZE CHAPTER MINUTES:  APRIL 2011
April 19
Welcome back Jan Brennan. Jan has been ill and not been able to come to our meetings for several months.  Hopefully she is back on the road to recovery. Welcome visitors.

Recognized Andy Hendricks, Brenda's husband, for the great writeup in The Daily Sun for his volunteer work at The Villages' Second Harvest Garden.  Congratulations and thank you, Andy!

Our Tea is next week.  Suzy will bring her hats for us to wear.  Bette said several items are still needed.  She would send out an email reminding all who signed up.

Reminder for all to visit  the QGOTV.org web site!!!

Wed, 1 pm at Bridgeport Recreation Center..Quilt in A Day presentation by Patricia Knoechel  (pronounced Nagle) - Eleanor Burns sister.  Please bring canned goods for the 3 food banks the Guild supports. Quilting books, patterns, & rulers will be available for purchase.  No credit cards, checks & cash only.  It will be a lot of Fun!!

Today is our Comfort Quilt Day:

Several organizations that could benefit from our quilt donations were discussed:

-Infant & Toddler Pantry - our quilts are always welcome...must be for infants and toddlers.

-Shepherd's Lighthouse - located in Belleview.  The shelter is for homeless mothers with children. Information sheet available for review.   Usually houses up to 4 mothers and 8 children.

-Veteran's hospital. Suzy G. suggested we make small lap quilts for the Vets.

-Quilts for Kids - Local chapter is at Whippoorwill Station.  Kits are available at QFK headquarters in PA.  You complete the quilt and mail it back to them and they distribute the quilts nationwide (you pay postage) or use your own fabrics and drop them off at Whippoorwill and Carol B. will take them to the Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital.  Information brochure and suggested patterns available for review.

-Brenda introduced a new Charity that her Sorioty has adopted which is sponsored by the Sheriff's Youth Ranch.  They have adopted a cabin of 12 young girls (youngest is 14).  SeaBreeze members unanimously voted to adopt the cabin also.  We will make quilts (twin size) pillow cases and tote bags.  We would also provide toiletries, soap, shampoo, etc.  We had 1 1/2 quilts which would meet the twin size needed.  Juanita worked on adding several more strips of blocks to make the one quilt top twin size.  We need to organize groups to work on the quilts, pillow cases and totes.

Gay mailed 21 star blocks to Moda for the100 Quilts in 100 Days project!!  Thanks to all who made the blocks and thank you Gay for heading up this project!  P.S.  She took pictures before she mailed them.

We sorted completed quilts and identified a Charity to donate them.  Mary Anne suggested we add labels to our quilts before donating.  All members thought this was great idea.  Elaine J. volunteered to make quilt labels on her computer and print off on iron on fabric for next meeting.   They would read:  Made with love by SeaBreeze Quilters, The Villages, FL
