President Judy Short called the meeting to order
Vice President/Program Chair, Cathie Champion sadly resigned her position due to not being able to be here on a full-time basis throughout the year. Chris Leedy stepped forward and volunteered to fill this position. Thanks so much, Chris!
Shirts: Jan Dahl shared with the group a sample of the logo on the butter colored fabric. Everyone approved it. Shirts should arrive in 3-4 weeks depending on when the order is placed. Thanks so much for handling this order, Jan!
Name tags: Donna R. presented another name tag option for a better price. She will be handling the placement of this order. Name tags are $5.00.
Donna P. updated us on the storage issue. The Sterling Heights management is checking with the "powers that be" to see what kind of storage space might be available to us.
Donna P. also presented an option for a road trip to a class: Free Motion Quilting presented by Judy Hanson of The Quilt Shop Of Deland: http://www.quiltshopofdeland.com/
Since so many people showed an interest in this activity, Donna will further investigate scheduling a date, cost, etc.
Donna Rissman shared that The Jacksonville Quilt Show is this weekend. She also shared information about making fleece blankets for the Carpenter's House of Lake County, an orphanage in Wildwood: http://www.thecarpentershouseoflakecounty.com/
Donna graciously offered to share her stash of fleece for this project. We decided to work on this project starting at meetings in the near future.
Rosters: As soon as I have an accurate and updated roster with phone numbers, etc., I will email them to all members of the group.
Sea Breeze Chapter Visit: Several members of the Sea Breeze Quilting Chapter paid a visit to our group to share helpful hints and awesome ideas with us. Their president, Alice Nicholas, presented our group with gifts of a stash of fat quarters, table risers & delicious goodies. Many of their members graciously shared many Show-n-Tell items with us. The items and ideas are too numerous to list all of them here.
The Sea Breeze Chapter invited our members to join them on a Bus Trip to Suwannee Quilt Shoppe in Trenton, FL. This event will be held on Friday, Nov. 11 - from 8-4:30. We passed around a sign-up for members who were interested in attending. Thanks so much for the invite! http://www.suwanneeshops.com/
We had a wonderful time socializing with their members and enjoying the delicious goodies that they brought to share.
President Judy pulled the membership back together for a few more discussion items. She would like to gather information next week on "what each member most wants from this group" This information will help to guide our direction in the future.
It was decided that next week (Sept. 27) we will begin working on the following items:
-Candy Corn project
-Placemats
-Fleece blankets for the orphanage in Wildwood.
**Supply lists for these projects will be sent out shortly.
Each member is asked to bring in a fat quarter to contribute to our Birthday Basket. Then during your birthday month you will be able to choose a fat quarter from the basket.
Membership Capacity: We decided to set the membership limit at 40 members.
Items for future discussion:
-How to spend budget money--purchasing start-up items
-How to best utilize the limited # of outlets in the room
-Room workspace configuration
-Structure of our monthly meetings
-Much much more. . .I am sure!
