Quilting Guild of The Villages March 2011 Executive Board Minutes
The Board of The Quilting Guild of The Villages met March 15, 2011. The meeting was called to order by President Jeannette Flint at 3:00 pm.
The 2013 Quilt Show Report was given by Carol Schroeder and Ann Moroz.
An inventory of the storage unit is complete.
The golf cart cover is missing and presidents were asked to see if anyone in their chapter has the cover.
The website has been updated with quilt photos from the 2011 show.
A vendor show was suggested for even years. There was considerable discussion and a concern was raised about the cost of the venue and this will be researched before further discussion.
Admission and vendor fees have not been raised in some time and most shows cost more than the $5.00 charged at our show. Jackie Whitehead moved we raise the admission of the show to $7.00 for two day attendance, seconded by Regina Wolf and passed.
It was suggested side panel frames be decorated by the chapters. More guidelines will follow.
The proposed 2013 show budget was submitted for review.
It was noted that we need to sell tickets for the charity quilt at other venues inside and outside The Villages as a significant amount of the charity quilt income this year was from the members.
The co-chairs suggested a quilted banner be made for the charity quilt area matching the other banners. Please ask your chapters for suggestions for the wording for this banner and report next month.
A motion was made by Regina Wolfe to increase the guild membership dues to $5.00 per member for 2012. Seconded by Jeannie Meyer and carried.
The February secretary's report was read and a motion was made by Tonia Brock and seconded by Jackie Whitehead to accept the report and was carried.
Jackie Whitehead still has two quilts left over from the boutique that are unclaimed. Please ask your members to help identify the owners or the quilts will be donated if left unclaimed.
Beth Bender gave the Treasurer's Report. There are 608 paid guild members.
Beth distributed copies of the proposed guild budget for April 2011 - March 2013. There was a motion by Regina Wolfe, seconded by Paula Mooney to reduce the professional fees from $1,500 to $1,000 and carried. The term 'grants' in the budget will be corrected to 'start-up grants' as this allocation is for new chapters only.
Donna Parisi moved to accept the Treasurer's report seconded by Regina Wolf and carried. It was noted that the treasurer's report does not require a motion to accept.
There was a motion by Paula Mooney to accept the April 2011 - March 2013 budget as amended, seconded by Maryellen Mineo and carried.
Program Committee Report:
Micki MacCumbee requested chapters provide input to her for the newsletter. Her email is maccumbee313@comcast.net.
Micki distributed the programs schedule for the remainder of 2011 through March 2013. It includes a number of local and national teachers and a large variety of programs.
The program committee is asking guild teachers to give back 25% of their class fees over $100 to a program class fund for expenses and for a library donation since we are able to hold classes at the library without charge.
Our bylaws state our guild meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Beth Bender will research what is required to amend this so we have the option of holding afternoon guild meetings.
Micki is in the process of visiting each of the chapters and she will be contacting the presidents to set up convenient times.
Marilyn Paluszak, an Alamanda chapter member is willing to take over the responsibility of the guild website and she has expertise in this area. She presented her ideas to expand and improve the website. Officers will contact the current web developer to express our gratitude for his past service and to arrange for the transition.
Regina Wolf moved we give $100 in gift certificates to our current webmaster, Don Crosby in appreciation for his services. This was seconded by Lucy Verbois and carried.
Lucy Verbois announced that Moda fabrics and United Notions has a program to make quilts for wounded soldiers. Quilters are asked to make a one-star block due May 1, 2011 for presentation on Flag Day in June. Details and the pattern are on the unitednotions.com/LA_just_one_star.pdf.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:20 pm
Respectfully Submitted,
Joyce McKee
